gee cam

this is the first and quite possibly the last time I'm applauding google.

they've outdid themselves with google camera (stingy dinguses, putting it only on google pixel devices).

for the uninitiated (and for the apple users), google camera is the default camera app for the google pixel line of devices, similar to basically every other manufacturer with their own camera app. but google camera is quite special, with its incredible postprocessing which puts the google pixel line high up in the ranks in terms of smartphone photography.

now while it's exclusive to pixel devices only, there are modders out there who modify the google camera app and make their own which works on other devices. along with these, there are many config files, which are very important to the performance of gcam on your specific nugget phone (or you can of course spend your time perfecting your very own config). with this, the google pixel signature processing (although a little scuffed) can be brought to other nugget phones!

i have myself a redmi (not bluemi) note 10 pro. it takes nice pictures with the stock camera, but I feel gcam adds an extra touch that somehow makes images look great (with the exception of some weirdly-'shaped' noise when you zoom in too much).

here are some images i took with gcam here. (compressed)

my specific config is really nice to use outside. not inside though. people tend to look oversaturated and there's more noise. but it is really good nonetheless. videos are really great too. there's various different stabilisation modes, one of the best being the 'locked' mode, which zooms in quite a bit to make a very stable shot.

there should be better results on other phones, compared to mine.

oh and google still won't give up on tracking you even on the camera (requires google play services), don't know how I feel on that front.
